January 30, 2026: “Dystopia”, the new Afasia single is released.

Afasia was formed in 2023 by students of the Music School of Athens. After establishing a strong presence on the city’s youth music scene, with appearances at live events for student bands and participation in Schoolwave, the five-member alternative rock band released their debut single and video clip, “Unbalanced” (November 2025, Puzzlemusik). Now, a few weeks before the release of their debut album “We Will Die Dreaming,” they are releasing their second single, “Dystopia.”

“Dystopia” is an fast flowing and powerful instrumental piece that has already stood out in Afasia’s live performances to date. Powerful, yet contemplative at the same time, with the guitar, piano, and saxophone intertwining over the dynamic beat provided by the drums. “Dystopia” is based on the first bars of J.S. Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue: No. 16 in G minor, BWV 861,” which can be heard in the piano introduction, before the … plot twist that leads to areas where the classical form is transformed into a landscape full of tension and emotional charge.

Following the tradition that occasionally requires Puzzlemusik’s digital singles to be accompanied by a B-side (in line with the standard and logic of the “second side” of 7″ vinyl releases), “Dystopia” is accompanied by “Feardom” in its instrumental version. This song will be included in its original version (with lyrics) on the band’s debut album, which will be released later this winter.

With this second single release, Afasia confirms what was already apparent from their debut: a level of maturity and authenticity rare for a band whose members are just 18 and 17.

The band’s name is a metaphor for the widespread apathy and the pathological lack of reaction to important social events. Afasia took their name from the disorder of the ability to understand or produce written or spoken language (“aphasia” or “αφασία” in Greek). This is a disorder in which the individual cannot speak fluently, assign the correct meaning to words, understand them, and often read.

“Dystopia” (as well as the previous single “Unbalanced”) will be included in Afasia’s debut album entitled “We Will Die Dreaming,” which will be released on February 20 on CD and streaming/download by Puzzlemusik.
