Christos Alexopoulos – Parallages sto Mono Thema

Friday, April 24, 2026: Twenty-five years after its initial release, composer and producer Christos Alexopoulos’s album “Parallages sto Mono Thema “Variations on the One and Only Theme”) is being released for the first time in digital format.

Twenty-five years after its initial CD release by the legendary Hitch-Hyke Records (2001), the album is now available for the first time on streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple/iTunes, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal, and others). The turn of the century was, in many ways, a transitional period for music in relation to the then-new technologies and for the music industry in general. There are quite a few albums from the Greek music scene of that period that are not available online, and this reissue fills one of those gaps.

Both this sοphomore album by Christos Alexopoulos and his debut “I Alli Plevra” (“The Other Side,” which preceded it in 1999 (and was also re-released by Puzzlemusik for streaming platforms in November 2024), offered a sound and an aesthetic approach that were unusual for their time. Whereas “The Other Side” flirted with the atmospheric electronica of the era, “Variations on the One and Only Theme” (where the “theme” was the difficulty of communication in relationships—romantic, friendly, professional—) presented a more pop-rock aesthetic; yet in the arrangements, alongside electric guitars, keyboards, drums, and samples, one encounters a multitude of acoustic instruments such as flute, oboe, English and French horns, trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone, violin, viola, piano, acoustic guitars, and double bass.

The album includes 13 tracks: two instrumentals and eleven songs. Nine of them feature lyrics by Christos Alexopoulos. “[To Tzami]” (“[The Window Glass]” is a poem by Matthaios Moundes, and the lyrics for “Trampala” («See-Saw”) were written by Tina Alexopoulou. Tina Alexopoulou also performs a duet with actor Konstantinos Markoulakis. Together they sing “Mia kopela ap’ti kypseli” (“Some girl from the beehive”). There is another duet on the album. “Yenia” (“Generation” – a song that stood out particularly during the album’s initial release) is performed by Christos Alexopoulos himself and Maria Latsinou.

The album served as the inspiration and catalyst for the musical-theatrical performance “Variations on the One and Only Theme,” which premiered on May 15, 2002, as a co-production of “Omada Theama” and “Omada Theamatos I Alli Plevra” at the “Technochoro Ypo Skian” theatre venue. The production was conceptualized, dramaturgically curated, and directed by Angeliki Darlasi. Initially scheduled for a limited run, it was extended due to its success and continued through June. The performance featured six performers and/or dancers and six musicians on stage.

In the years that followed, Christos Alexopoulos released another album on Hitch-Hyke Records (“Kai Meta?”, 2003) before founding the Puzzlemusik record label in 2006, whose first release was his fourth album, “Parapounes & Triafyntalla.” Further albums followed—“Vouveau” (2008), “Alice in Wonderland” (2010, in collaboration with author Angeliki Darlasi), and “MeanTime” (2012)—after which he temporarily set aside his solo discography to focus on projects he conceived but developed in close collaboration with other musicians. These included the recording and concert project “Maria Latsinou & Mokita” (2015–2018), as well as the revival of the improvisational concert project “The 3rd Man Element,” whose second phase began in 2017 and was interrupted by the pandemic in 2020.

In parallel, he has composed—and continues to compose—music for theatrical productions, short films, documentaries, and television series, including most recently the STAR TV crime mystery series “Mavroi Pinakes,” for which he wrote the full score, and the ANT1 series “Super Heroes,” for which he composed the theme song performed by Idra Kayne.
