Yiorgos Pantazopoulos – Lucy: A Summer Love Story
2025.09.26: Double bassist and composer Yiorgos Pantazopoulos makes his solo debut with the release of the digital single “Lucy: A Summer Love Story.” The single is accompanied by a video clip and is a precursor to his personal album “Some Things I’ve Never Told You,»Which will be released by Puzzlemusik later this year.
Despite his young age, Yiorgos Pantazopoulos is one of the most active musicians on the Greek jazz scene, having participated in various jazz projects alongside great musicians such as George Kontrafouris, Dimos Dimitriadis, Dimitris Angelakis, Yiannis Papadopoulos, Gilad Atzmon, Amos Hoffman, and others, He is also a member of the Sunny Side Trio.
“Lucy: A Summer Love Story” offers us a first taste of Yiorgos Pantazopoulos’ upcoming debut album, which will feature almost exclusively his own compositions and will be released on CD and digitally later this year. The album entitled “Some Things I’ve Never Told You» will contain tracks in the form of a jazz piano trio performed with an unusual combination of energy and delicacy by a brilliant trio of musicians from the younger generation of the Greek jazz scene, which for many years now has remained consistently creative and robust and continues to be one of the most important pillars of musical creation in the country. The musicians playing on the album (and therefore also on the single) are: Alexandros Lykothanasis: piano, Panagiotis Themas: drums, and Yiorgos Pantazopoulos himself on double bass.
“Lucy: A Summer Love Story” opens with a steady yet playful riff on the double bass, light yet powerful, like the first rays of sunlight illuminating a late summer morning. The piano enters softly and melodically, followed by the discreet drums, while the steady rhythm of the bass sets the pulse for a love story that is just beginning to unfold. We leave the rest of the story to the protagonists themselves, but also to your imagination as you listen to the piece.
