Yiorgos Pantazopoulos – Night Ride

Friday, November 28, 2025: “Night Ride” is the second digital single from double bassist and composer Yiorgos Pantazopoulos’ upcoming debut album, “Some Things I’ve Never Told You,” which will be released soon. The first live presentation of the album will take place at the Half Note Jazz Club on January 21, 2025.

The album will contain tracks in the form of a jazz piano trio performed with an unusual combination of energy and subtlety by a brilliant trio of musicians from the younger generation of the Greek jazz scene. For many years now the Greek Jazz scene remains creative and is one of the most important pillars of musical creation in Greece. The musicians playing on the album (and therefore also on the single) are: Alexandros Lykothanasis: piano, Panagiotis Themas: drums, and Yiorgos Pantazopoulos himself on double bass.

Despite his young age, Yiorgos Pantazopoulos is one of the most active musicians on the Greek jazz scene, participating in various jazz projects alongside great musicians such as George Kontrafouris, Dimos Dimitriadis, Dimitris Angelakis, Yiannis Papadopoulos, Gilad Atzmon, Amos Hoffman, and others. He is also a member of the Sunny Side Trio.

“Night Ride”, with its atmospheric bluesy intro, its wanderlust vibe, and its melodiousness, is a composition by Yiorgos himself, as is “Lucy: A Summer Love Story” his first single, which was released earlier in the fall. These two tracks offer us just a taste of the wealth of moods we will encounter in Yiorgos Pantazopoulos’ upcoming debut album, which will mainly feature his own compositions, will be titled “Some Things I’ve Never Told You” and will be released digitally on Friday, December 5, and on CD a few weeks later.

Yiorgos himself says about “Night Ride”: It’s the first song I ever wrote and it has special emotional value for me. It was written during the first lockdown in 2020, at a time when the influences of the great bassists Oscar Pettiford and Ray Brown were evident. The main idea for the melody was written on an evening bus, hence the name of the song.

The LIVE presentation of the album will take place at Half Note Jazz Club (Athnes,G Greece) on January 21, 2025. Detailed information about this first Live Presentation will be announced in due course.

Yiorgos Pantazopoulos was born in Athens, Greece and graduated from the Jazz Department of the Ionian University, specializing in jazz double bass. (Undergraduate and Master’s program).
He took his first steps in music at a very young age with classical guitar lessons. In 2017, he began his studies at the Jazz Department of the Ionian University. During his studies, he devoted himself to jazz music and explored the role of the double bass in small and large ensembles. He studied with an Erasmus scholarship at Codarts University in Rotterdam (2021).
Since 2017, he has been working as a professional musician in large concert venues, festivals (Corfu Jazz Festival, Tinos Jazz Festival), and clubs both in Greece and abroad.
